| The beach bar at the
Blue Parrot (tel. 984/873-0083) is the most popular 'beach
bar' hangout in town and a classic example of its genre. |
 |
 |
Also on the beach is
Captain Tutiz (no phone), which is designed like a pirate ship and
has a large bar area, dance floor, and live entertainment nightly. Right
next door a new techno-bar named Lumpax located between 4th and
6th street. |
| The Mambo Cafe, just
off 5th Avenue, may not look like much from the outside, but inside is a
very large salsa dance bar that gets very crowded with locals and
international salsa dancers. Show up early for lessons. |

|
Deseo (Desire) on 5th
Avenue is a fun place day or night. Instead of the usual tables and
chairs, Deseo has beds where you can lounge and enjoy food, drink and
conversation. During the day you can sun and swim in the pool. At night
they project the tackiest 'B' or even 'C' level movies they can find on
the huge wall under the stars. |
|
As you
stroll down 5th avenue listen and watch, you will find a wide variety of
bars with sidewalk tables, widescreen sport TV, and a wide variety of
live music from rock, to folk and of course the ubiquitous mariachi
music.

Don't see what you're
looking for? As around the scene is constantly changing and Playa offers
much more than what you see here from the today's trendiest lounge to
gay dance bars |
| If frat house antics,
hourly dancing to the YMCA song and Jell-O-Shots is your idea of getting
crazy in Mexico, down by the ferry dock is a Señor Frog's (tel.
984/873-0930), and its nearly identical cousin Carlos N Charlies
just up to street towards Avenida 5. |
 |
| |
There is also a new
movie theater at Avenida 10 and calle 8. These usually are fairly new
Hollywood releases in English with Spanish subtitles. |
